INTRO: I have wanted to do a message on soul winning for a number of years. I am not worthy to write this message in the sense that this is a subject I greatly practice, though I do seek opportunity whenever I can. It is the subject of being an instrument in the hand of God whereby He can get the message that is burning on His heart to another individual through us, as Christians, in order that they might be saved.
For a text this morning I want to use Proverbs 11:30 which says, "The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he who wins souls is wise." We want to consider the clause, "He who wins souls is wise." John Gill says, "The soul of man is a hold, and a strong hold, of foul spirits; it is Satan’s palace or castle, which he keeps and holds against Christ…" The man who is wise wins souls. He takes this palace or castle, and he wins it to Christ. In this subject of soul winning, I fear that we, as Mennonites come far behind. We could learn a lot from our brethren, the Baptists. Someone has said where you find one Baptist you soon find two. He that winneth souls is wise. So says the Word of God. The soul, to God, is of incredible worth. And the purifying of that soul is much more precious to God than fine gold. |
