In this passage, Jeremiah is young and not wanting to be God’s spokesperson. That is the kind of person that God desires to use. No matter what is going on, those that are in Christ Jesus are secure. Jeremiah was given a very unpopular message, to tell the people that their kingdom was going to be overrun and there was nothing they could do about it; it was God’s will. Jeremiah was given a message that no one wanted to hear and would get him imprisoned and his life threatened. Jeremiah survived the persecution but his life was very difficult. When things are tough, we need to trust in Jesus and we will be safe and secure in the midst of turmoil. God says that if we repent He will forgive us. However, the people during this time, refused to repent. Even still, God calls to them through the prophet Jeremiah. Sin hurts us (and others around us). Sin is crazy, destructive, behavior. God cares about us and does not want us to perish in our sin. It is possible to come to a place where God says that He will not hear our pleas for help. God’s wrath will be poured out and the most horrible manifestation of that is when God says; Have it your way. If our goal is to be our own boss and have it our way, we need to repent. God has warned us that such a mindset will lead us to destruction. We don't need to be afraid or despair, but we should not be surprised.
