The Old Testament sacrificial system was 'continual' - the priestly work of sacrifice never ceased, because the people never stopped sinning, and because God's justice was never satisfied and sin's debt was never paid. Thousands of innocent animals were sacrificed every year - year after year. But when the Lamb of God, our Great High Priest, offered up Himself a sacrifice for sin, HE SAT DOWN at the right hand of the Father. In the Old Testament, no provision was ever made for the priests to sit down in the tabernacle because their work was never done. But when Jesus offered up Himself, He sat down - because the work WAS done - sin's debt WAS paid for - justice was forever satisfied. No sin of the believer - past, present, or future sin - can ever bring him into condemnation, because his sins no longer cry out for justice. Justice has been satisfied!
