We quickly review and deal with Philippians Chapter 3 after more than a month long break. Then -- at the 28 minute mark, Pastor Steve shows the truth of The Blessed Hope from Philippians 3:20-21
I. Forgetting the past.
II. The preeminence of Christ. 7-11
III. This preeminence is Paul's driving force on this earth – and is his chief motivation for everything he does.
IV. Paul isn't a simple triumphalist – he is a realist. Triumphalism believes Christianity is victory after victory after victory. If this is so, where do trials, illnesses, imprisonments and persecutions come in?
Those who hold to a Triumphalist mindset often are tempted to pretend everything is fine and deny the realities, difficulties, or pain of their situation.
V. Paul reasserts the fact that his gospel is true and his Christian example is one worthy to be imitated. v. 17, 15-16
VI. The danger of false doctrine and false teachers. 3:18-20
1. They are the enemy. 2. Their end is destruction. 3. Their god is their belly. 4. Their glory is their shame. 5. They set their mind on earthly things.
VII. The blessed hope 3:20-4:1
1 Thessalonians 4:13-17, 5:1-11 – The Second Coming
1. Christ comes unexpectedly. 2. While the time of his coming is secret – His coming is no secret. 3. The destruction of the lost is sudden and there is no escape. 4. The Second Coming of Christ IS The Blessed Hope. 5. Could He come in our lifetime?
