Sometimes we as believers become discouraged and even fearful because of the condition of the world around us. And one thing we're reminded of as we work through the messages to the churches, and that is that the church has always lived in pressure conditions. We sometimes think that wow, with the spread of secular humanism and new age thinking, our society is deteriorating in ways that it never has before. But as I study the letters to the churches, I'm reminded that things weren't so good in the good old days. . That Satan, the world and sin have not changed. Sometimes the strategies are adjusted, but basically the church has been called to be a light in the midst of darkness. That's why these churches are represented as lampstands. We are giving forth the light of the knowledge of Jesus Christ in a world that lives in the darkness of sin, in the depravity that characterizes a sinful people.
