Theme: As disciples of Christ, we are called to be imitators of Him, putting aside our petty pride and desires and working together for the sake of the kingdom. In vv. 46-48, we see the disciples self-serving argument. In their pride, they were arguing about who was the greatest. We need to instead follow the example of Christ and practice humility. In vv. 49-50, we see the disciples self-serving boast. While we do need to be aware of and avoid false teachers as we minister with others, we should put away jealousy and pride in ministry and fight against elitism. Jesus admonishes his disciples that whoever is not against them is on their side. The disciples had some hard lessons to learn. We should seek to learn the same lessons. Are we practicing humility and encouraging others? Are we willing to care for the "least of these?" Are we willing to work with others for the sake of the gospel? The gospel is the only way to bring people to the kingdom and see them transformed by the power of His might!
