Paul has been addressing those stronger Christians in Corinth, they know that they are saved by grace and not by eating or not eating something and so knowing this they don't want to be restrained in their practice by the weak consciences of other Christians who don't have as clear a knowledge as themselves. Paul has come to these knowing Christians and said… “Love not knowledge should influence how you live. I ask that you set aside your knowledge and live in consideration of those whose consciences restrict them from this action. I don't want you to push them to do something that in their heart of hearts they feel is not right. It is more important that their consciences remain tender than that they learn to act in a way that you know is within your rights and theirs.â€
In other words Paul is saying “Love is more important than Knowledge…act in love and don't offend their consciences or push them away from the restrictions of those consciences.â€
Now Paul is going keep going after this with these stronger Christians. He is devoting a lot of ink to this one subject. I think it is not because this subject alone, meat sacrificed to idols, was so important than that the character lessons it provided were so important for growing Christians like these in Corinth. The first lesson is to chose love over knowledge. The next lessons will be to regard the Gospel's advance as greater than the rights you have gained from that Gospel. The Gospel is Greater than your Rights…
