Once upon a time there was a man named Nicodemus. Nicodemus is the man. A Pharisee and a ruler. Their goal was to put a fence around God's law to avoid breaking it. And their thought was that their strict adherance to it would bring about God's Messiah and end-times kingdom. And as a ruler, Nicodemus is a member of the Sanhedrim, the Jewish supreme court made up of 70 of the finest, 70 of the 6,000 Pharisees in practice. He was a man of note and eminence. He was sincere and morally upright. But he came to Jesus to be taught. He knew that Jesus was a man sent by God, but does not know that Jesus was the Christ the Son of the Living God. Jesus would tell him what he needed was to be born again. He must be born from above. This is what we all must have to enter the kingdom of God.
