Jesus said, 'My Father is always working to this day and I am working.' He went on to say that the Son '...can do only what He sees the Father doing because whatever the Father does the Son also does.' Jesus understood clearly that His Father was always on mission going out to redeem and restore the world that He made and that was so near to His heart. There was no burden on His Father's heart that He did not carry.
The Son's mission cannot be understood apart from the Father who sent Him. Neither can we understand our own calling in the gospel apart from understanding the mission of the Father and the Son for "As the Father has sent me, so I send you'.
Jesus prayed that we might be one in the Father and in the Son that the world might believe that the Father has sent the Son and that they might know the Father loves us even as He loves His own beloved Son. The Father and Son along with the Spirit (who also is sent) are one in love and one in their burning love for a lost world. Being one together as God's beloved, redeemed family in the Father and in the Son must mean that we too are always on Mission!
Let's pray that we may indeed be one with the love that counts not the cost in order to redeem and to restore.
