Now in this 3rd type of ground the Word is being heard, but there are thorns there in the person’s heart that are doing something dreadful to it. They are choking the Word and it becomes unfruitful in them. So this is what we want to explore this morning. There are 3 things which are mentioned in these verses which choke the Word of God so that it becomes unfruitful in the life of a Christian. In Matthew’s gospel they are said to be: “The cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches”. In Mark’s gospel they said to be: “the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things entering in.” In Luke's gospel Chapter 8, verse 14 we find that it says, “Now the ones that fell among the thorns are those who, when they have heard, go out and are choked with cares, riches, and pleasures of life, and bring no fruit to maturity”. So the question is, “What are those things in our lives that will choke the Word of God’s power and influence in our lives so that we will not bring forth fruit unto God? They are the cares of the world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things.
