Let us understand this afternoon, that when we are betrothed to Jesus Christ our Lord, by faith in Him and His finished work on the cross, that He comes to our soul and opens our heart to realize the greatness of His love for us; the one who is trusting in Him. He is always with my soul from that moment I first believe. He will never leave me nor forsake me. His left hand is under my head, and His But my perception of His love and my experience of His love are being awakened over and over again by His visits to my soul in the fellowship that I have with Him day by day. There is an awakening of my love for His visits to my soul. His love for my soul is constant, but sometimes I have a greater experience of that love than I do at other times. That is what is being described for us here in these verses that we are looking at this afternoon. Christ is sovereign over these love visits. So let us ask ourselves some questions this afternoon. What should I do, as a believer, to prepare myself to receive more of the love of Christ to my soul? What things should I remember if I would have Him visit my soul with His presence, His fellowship, and a sense of His love? There are 3 things which are commended to us from this text. First of all – You should remember that young and immature believers may not yet understand the preciousness of this kind of personal communion with their Lord. It is your duty to instruct them. Secondly – You should remember to often listen for the voice of your Beloved. And thirdly – You should remember that your Beloved, because of His great love for you, comes to gaze at your heart, to see the beauty of His grace there, at work in your soul.
