Commands to Sanctification - Paul is giving commands that reinforce the life Paul lived before Timothy - Paul wants Timothy to teach others to avoid those who will shipwreck their faith
In essence, Paul is telling us that we must avoid the evil and embrace the good if we are to attain unto a sanctified life
1. We must be students of the Lord (2:14-15) - avoid meaningless arguments (don't get sidetracked) - we must be students of the Word (approved, no cause for shame, orthodox) 2. We must be separated unto the Lord (2:16-22a) - shun heresy - purge yourself from false doctrine - flee lust 3. We must seek after the Lord (2:22b) - follow righteousness (imputed and imparted) - follow faith (trust in the unseen God, truth is the touchstone) - follow love (toward God, His people, even your enemies) - follow with those that are the people of God
