At the conclusion of the Feast of Tabernacles, as Jesus was teaching in the Temple he called all men to follow Him proclaiming 'I am the Light of the World.'
The Pharisees rejected his testimony, and Jesus let them know this was because they knew neither Him nor His Father.
From this exchange we can learn 3 critical things:
1) Jesus is the True Light, and if you do not follow Him you do not know the Father. Therefore regardless of which god you are following, you are not following the true god if he is not the Father of Jesus Christ and if it is not necessary to come to him by faith in Jesus.
2) The world is full of false lights that will cause us to make shipwreck of our souls if we follow them instead of the TRUE LIGHT OF THE WORLD Jesus.
3) We can know we have come to the True Light and are headed to heaven if we have left the darkness and are actively following after Jesus. But if we still dwell in darkness, regardless of our profession or whether we prayed a 'sinners prayer' at some point, we are not truly followers of Christ.
