Revelation Lesson 060 SECOND BEAST: The second beast, Revelation 4:7, was a calf. RED: Throughout scripture, red often signifies slaughter, most aptly in the menacing imagery of the "great red dragon." In Second Kings, the Moabites mistake the shimmering waters reflecting the sun as blood, symbolizing a vast slaughter. 2 Kings 3:22 And they rose up early in the morning, and the sun shone upon the water, and the Moabites saw the water on the other side as red as blood: 23 And they said, This is blood: the kings are surely slain, and they have smitten one another: now therefore, Moab, to the spoil. The "great red dragon" with multiple heads, horns, and crowns, indicates vast power and a formidable presence. Revelation 12:3 And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads. Red also signifies sin and guilt, passion and love, power and authority. Red is a color, whereas scarlet (Isaiah 1:18) is a dye used for clothing. TAKE PEACE: Since this "red horse rider" is commissioned to remove peace from the earth, the world must be at peace with the First Seal and the "white horse rider." The Red horse rider takes peace, highlighting the deceptive and fleeting nature of the earlier calm. KILL ONE ANOTHER: The book of Judges shows how God turned the Midianites against one another: This ancient battle may contain a prophetic example of the troubled years of Daniel's Seventieth Week when men are killing one another without remorse.
