In The Disputation Concerning Justification, Luther answered this error: Major Premise: Faith without works justifies, Minor Premise: Faith without works is dead [Jas. 2:17, 26]. Therefore, dead faith justifies.:
"…We say that justification is effective without works, not that faith is without works. For that faith which lacks fruit is not an efficacious but a feigned faith. … It is one thing that faith justifies without works; it is another thing that faith exists without works." [LW 34: 175-176].

Great Beginning! Great beginning to this new series in the book of James. "But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned." (1 Cor. 2:14) So much trouble has come from the preaching of spritually dead men. Thank God for His faithfullness to raise up men who fear Him, in the Spirit, and can discern His Word. Faith/works? Can you discern how these two work together? I've learned a lot from this message.
