This chapter sets the stage for the fulfillment of the 3rd & 4th judgments which shall fall to David for his sin concerning Bathsheba and her husband, Uriah. Joab, in his desire to console David concerning Absalom, arranges for a wise widow woman to have an audience with the king. There is an uncanny parallel between her problem and the king's. In the end David discerns Joab's hand in all of this and pardons Absalom allows him t return to Jerusalem.
