The Apostle Paul spent years in Ephesus helping the church there get firmly established in the ways of Jesus Christ. He taught them, led them and no doubt appointed elders to watch over and shepherd them as they followed Christ in a hostile, pagan culture.
After Paul left Ephesus, some of those elders began to go bad; that is, they started drifting into false teaching and advocating sinful lifestyles that were opposed to the way of Jesus Christ. Because of this, Paul encouraged his young colleague, Timothy, to stay in Ephesus in order to withstand the false teachers and to guide the church in sound doctrine and godly living.
After 5-6 years from his ministry in Ephesus, Paul writes to Timothy to encourage him in his work. The letter that he wrote is what we have in our Bibles as 1 Timothy. We have been studying it for the last few months as the 1st of the 3 New Testament books known as the Pastoral Letters.
Today in our study we come to the beginning of the conclusion of 1 Timothy.
