AD 1920–ff (Contemporary church) NOTES: Every other church is described as a church "in" a certain city (i.e. Church "in" Philadelphia). This is a church "of the" Laodiceans (OF THE people). They are weak in taking a stand for the word of God. There seems to be more hope during this period for individual revival and fellowship with Christ, as opposed to large-scale revival as in past history. The important point to never forget is that there is always hope. Christians during this Laodicean period should strive to live as Philadelphia Christians in a wicked Laodicean time. This is the most important point to understand. HISTORICAL LAODICEA This ancient city, located in the province of Phrygia, was founded by Antiochus II (261–246 BC). He named the city after his wife, Laodike, and populated it with Syrians and Jews who he transported from the cities of Phrygia and Lydia (previously transported from Babylonia).
