This sermon references much material from David Powlison's booklet "Stressed Out: Becoming Peaceful on the Inside." Theme: In a noisy world, followers of Christ can have a calm and quiet soul when our hope is continually found in Christ. In this Psalm, David shares how he has calmed and quieted his soul. In v. 1, we learn that to have a peaceful soul, we must learn humility, realize our limitations, and pursue godliness. In v. 2, we see the method of a calmed heart. We cannot attain peace by the force of our will, but we must trust in the promises of God by the power of the Holy Spirit. In application, we must live a life of daily repentance, faith, and obedience to God's Word. Verse 3 gives the foundation of a calmed heart. Our hope is in the great I AM. We can continually and calmly trust in Christ. Let us apply this great Psalm to our lives by ridding ourselves of pride, seeking Christ as our greatest treasure, and living with Him as our hope.
