In this passage, we have the first test by which to examine ourselves to see whether we are true Christians or not. God is light and in Him there is no darkness at all. Therefore, if God is in you, God's light will be in you. If we say that we have fellowship with God and yet we walk in darkness, we lie. It is impossible to have the God of Light in us and still walk in darkness. That is not a Christian. That is a liar.
