John Calvin said that he was convinced that the error of the Corinthian church (1 Cor 1-2) was not that they had accepted heresy into their church, but that they had devised clever mediums for communicating the gospel that were at variance with the foolishness of the message. The basis for this statement is 1 Cor 1:17ff.
What the modern church does not seem to understand is that God puts "packaging" around his gospel to ordain it with simplicity and beauty. This is because God knows that the medium IS the message every bit as much as the message itself. How we tell people about Christ says as much about God as what we tell them about Christ.
The urgency of Paul's words to the Corinthians could not be anymore palpable for an American church that is consumed with trends, fads, and inventions that are themselves at variance with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Would to God that he would give ears to his people to let them hear!
