Today’s message is taken from John 21:1-14 and is titled “Jesus Recommissions His Disciples – Go FIsh.”
Although some liberal scholars call this last chapter of John “anticlimactic” and cast doubt on its Johannine authenticity, they have no textual reason to do so. Certainly, John 20:30-31 has a beautifully closing feel to it, but Chapter 21 is a fitting epilogue, particularly when considering its tremendous teaching and implication, and its impact on the disciples. In this last appearance of Jesus that John recounts, we see the recommissioning of the disciples.
We’ll examine this passage by observing the action, interpreting the message, and applying the teaching to our lives. In the process, we’ll see that Jesus puts the disciples in circumstances where they’ll remember where they were when He found them, and allows them to reflect on His glory.
