Dreaming of Wealth Unspeakable
Greater crowds, these days, seem to be understood to be greater success. Yet in reality, as it was in Jesus' day, the two are not necessarily connected. So if the crowds are no accurate measure of success, then, upon what criteria do we evaluate the value of the crowd? Let us filter the crowd by these criteria and see who is left. Those whose lives show genuine, fruitful faith, are those who find satisfaction in the kingdom of God, even though they are poor right now. Who live for satisfaction in the presence of God, even if they are hungry now. People who are even content to experience sorrow now, because they know they will experience joy with Christ. People who are not as concerned about being hated now as they are convinced of their ultimate identity in Christ. It is the fakes in the crowd who come to find their best life now--devastating eternal misery lies ahead. If all you have is Jesus, you are not only better off, you have everything! Your current suffering is all you will ever suffer; which makes it insignificant. All that matters is suffering and prosperity in eternity. Are you one of the fakes in the crowd who come to Jesus for what you can get now, or are you content to live for another world?
