SEALED WITH SEVEN SEALS: Revelation chapter 5 introduces the sealed book that will begin to be opened in Revelation chapter 6. Daniel says that the words are "shut up…even to the time of the end" (Daniel 12:4) and was told, "Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end" (Daniel 12:9). Therefore, some believe this book could be the book of Daniel or that portion of the book sealed in Daniel's day, but that is unlikely. The unsealing is more than just an unsealing of a literal book but the unsealing of one's understanding (Luke 24.45; John 16:13-14; 1 Corinthians 2:9-16; John 6:63). A second concept of the Seven-Sealed Book is that the book with seven seals is the Book of Revelation. When the Lamb opens the seven seals, the events of the book of Revelation unfold. Others have taught that this mysterious book is the Bible itself. For this reason, most Bibles have seven seals on the back binding. However, this is not the case with the modern versions. Following the Coronation Oath of Queen Elizabeth II, she was presented with a King James Bible and addressed with the following words: "Our gracious Queen: In order to keep you ever mindful of God's law and the Gospel, which are the guiding principles for the life and rule of Christian monarchs, we present you with this Book, the most precious treasure this world has to offer." The ceremony continued with these words: "Here is Wisdom; this is the royal Law; these are the lively Oracles of God." F.N.
