Problems in the church in Corinth were being caused by unbelievers gaining an influence in the corporate ministry and lives of the individual believers. As Paul addressed the issues, we have in the Word of God six commands regarding the separation that is necessary to prevent and/or correct the lack of discernment in the associations between believers and unbelievers in the church. Both moral and theological errors that will occur necessitate the separation called for by the Word of God. Opposing worship systems and the lifestyles of unbelievers and believers cannot be syncretized without their being compromise and antagonizing the Lord. As becomes clear, believers are not to join in or associate with unbelievers in their false worship system nor in doing the Lord’s work.
