Amos is not like one of the letters of the Apostle Paul. This book was not written to a select audience all gathered at one time in one place. Amos is a collection of sermon fragments. But it is not a random collection. Amos is a purposeful collection gathered and providentially preserved by the Holy Spirit for the continuing benefit of the people of God of all generations. It is possible that each of the three visions in chapter 7 may have been a sermon in itself, fleshed out in greater detail by the prophet. Perhaps the Spirit has placed them together so that we may more clearly see how each vision contributes to the fulfillment of God's purposes for his people. These verses give us key insights into the character of God and his ways.
