Nahum can be considered, Jonah, part 2. Nahum is the sequel to Jonah and once again deals with the people of Nineveh. The generation in Jonah's day enjoyed one of the greatest revivals in the history of man, but it was short lived. The events in Jonah occurred between 793-758BC during the reign of Jeroboam II (2 Kings 14:25). He preached, "Yet 40 days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown." The Ninevites believed and threw themselves on the mercy of God. God was compassionate and withheld judgment. That generation was spared, but eventually Nineveh returned to business as usual. A century later, the writing prophet, Nahum, records for us the prophecy of Nineveh's destruction. This book was written between 663BC and 612BC. The people of Nineveh became proud, idolatrous, and immoral. In 612BC, the powerful city of Nineveh was devoted to destruction to never rise again.
