1 John 4:1-4 -KJV Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. 2Â Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 3Â And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. 4Â Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
This battle that we are in mind is a battle for the minds, hearts and souls of mankind. And it all centers around truth.
We are commanded to judge, to try, to test these spirits to see if they be of God. But how is it one is to try, or test the spirits or the persons.
We test the foundation of truth. The foundation of one's faith must be in Christ and the foundation must be tested.
1. The First Test - Foundational Truth:
a. The Person of Christ. b. The Preeminence of Christ. c. The Provision of Christ.
Anything that takes away or adds to His Person, Preeminence or Provision is not of the Spirit of God, but the spirit of the anti-Christ.
