Ministry School 2011: Christians in past times often referred to the church as ‘the church militant’—the Church on the move and engaged in warfare, the church going deliberately and consciously towards the final and visible triumph of God over his enemies. Tragically, though there may be much movement in the church today, it could as easily be the movement of ‘the church somnambulant’—the sleepwalking church.
If we are indeed ‘the church militant’, then there is nothing static about us and neither is there place for the dreamy comfort of those content with what we seem to have. The church is to be on the move because her Savior is on the move and his Spirit is in us to set us up for all that we will meet with him.
Pastors, by whatever name or title, have a responsibility to stir up the people of God in their membership of ‘the armies of heaven’. And the members of those armies are equally responsible to rise up in faith and in the action of the Kingdom.
This school will show us who we are and what we are about and stir us to action, directed by the word written and led and controlled by the triumphant Living Word himself.
