This seventh message on the Biblical family focuses on the necessity of correcting and educating our disobedient children through physical and verbal discipline. The gift of children comes with a master plan that includes: instruction in the truth; training-up with the truth; AND chastisement for purposely deviating from the truth. All discipline must have an immediate effect in changing their behavior, as well as a long-term benefit in changing their character. Children are born with foolish hearts that lack wisdom and discernment - they are easily led astray into dangerous, useless and careless activities. Parents must take their "jobs" seriously, truly loving their children as friends, but when required, not holding back to spank diligently - no laziness, no procrastination and no half-hearted effort. Physical correction should get their attention, but never be abusive, brutal or damaging. The rod and reproof, when properly and consistently applied, will cause our children to be wise, providing comfort and delight to all.
