This sixth message on the Biblical family describes the necessity of parents being in CONTROL of their children - purposely guiding/leading them toward Christlikeness and not having child-centered homes. Training up a child is a command here, requiring that parents "initiate, make experienced, and prepare them for future responsibilities" - they are to "make them submissive", as when one leads a horse by a rope in its mouth. To train up one's child is each parent's priority. They obey God by authoritatively raising their children on a Godly COURSE. They give them clear directions and then hold their children to that lifestyle - this alone requires two things: (1) that the parents first understand and follow God's will themselves; and (2) that they show consistency, be an example, encourage, invest time, practice discipline, follow-thru and pray! Once the parents have lovingly invested 20+ years of Christ-like oversight into their children, it is expected and normal that those same children will have developedpersonal CONVICTIONS and stay on that Godly course, consistently imitating their parents as adults.
