It is as if we were in massive debt, and someone paid our debt, but gave us no more money than that. That leaves us at zero in our account. Justification is the pouring of riches into our account by Jesus Christ. Christ takes our sin and gives us His perfect righteousness, His perfect obedience of the Law. His righteusness is imputed to us by faith.
