IN THE SPIRIT: (See notes on Revelation 1:10.) John's journey to the Third Heaven leaves him uncertain if he's in his physical body. This is reminiscent of Paul's account of being swept up to the Third Heaven (2 Corinthians 12:1-4), written in A.D. 59 after being stoned to death in Lystra in A.D. 45 (Acts 14:19-20). Similarly, Ezekiel was spiritually transported from captivity to Jerusalem—about 500 to 600 miles (Ezekiel 11:1)—then later returned to Babylon in spirit (Ezekiel 11:24). We can experience the same type of travel in prayer by being bound with those on the other side of the world in prayer. Believers can travel to the throne of grace in Heaven through prayer. Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 10:19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, Our travel to the throne of grace is in spirit only. ONE SAT ON THE THRONE: After comparing Revelation 3:21 with Revelation 22:3 some conclude that the Father and the Son are one person and not three. The point is that both are sitting on the same throne together. Revelation 3:21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. Revelation 22:3 And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:
Revelation 4:3 And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald. JASPER AND SARDINE STONE: God is a light (
