Interpreting Romans 7:7-25 in the light of vv. 1:6, allows us to see the the marriage of Christ and the believer in terms of the Covenant of Redemption -- Christ's satisfaction of the terms of the Covenant leads to our betrothal to Him through the work of the Holy Spirit -- full union with Him: Christ in us and us in Christ, freed from the penalty of the Old Covenant by His death and with the law written on the heart and no condemnation for those who are in Christ. We are the blessing of the Covenant of Redemption for Christ and He is the blessing of the Covenant of Grace for us. But we await the final consummation of the marriage and live in and by the Spirit.
