The Lord’s Supper is not for the perfect, but for those who recognize that Jesus Christ obeyed the covenant for them and is the Lord of their lives – meaning that they endeavor to subject themselves to him. Those who reject Jesus as Lord and do not submit to him and his under-shepherds (elders and deacons) are therefore to be denied the food of Jesus Christ. The rebellious will only get this nourishing food as soon as they begin to submit to the Lord.
Brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ: What a privilege you have to eat at the Lord’s Table regularly! What nourishment comes to your soul! You see and hear afresh what the Lord has done for you and your soul is strengthened. I pray to God that you will stay in good relations with the Lord so you can always enjoy his benefits. And if you do stray, that you come back to him…with urgency and sincerity. How sad if you rob yourself of the food of life! How said if you absent yourself from this heavenly food!
