The Word of God must be the final authority in our lives in all areas that it addresses. The believer must know what God has said and then, we must submit our lives to the Word of God so as to be conformed to it.
This is certainly true in matters relating to the family and the relationships there in. The ways and patterns of the world will be opposed to much of what the Bible says because the world and the whole world system lie in the power of Satan himself. That being the case, the believer faces constant pressure to conform to the corruption and sinful ways of the world around them. Many have compromised God's word with the world's ways as a way of relieving some of the pressure. This is a danger that can creep in if the believer is not constantly being transformed by the Spirit to the Word of God, and submitting all of life to the Spirit's leading.
