Savonarola (1452-1498) is a generally unknown pre-reformation voice crying in the wilderness. His primary ministry was in Florence, Italy. He was a powerful preacher, and focused more on morality than theology. He cried against the immorality of his city, Florence, and the immorality rampant in the Roman Catholic Church. He ultimately suffered martyrdom at the hands of the Catholic Church. His is a story of faith in God and true courage in the midst of a very dark time. He takes his place as a pre-reformer, although not an especially theologically astute one, and one of those used by God to eventually help bring about what we call 'The Protestant Reformation'. Pastor Jeff presents Savonarola and all those in this series with their warts and all.
