We have now left the house of Christian Discipleship and have entered into the World of Christian Discipleship. There is a wide world outside of the church, outside of the family, and outside of ourselves, which as a Christian, you are to “run through” in order to reach heaven. This race involves fighting the good fight of faith and learning to run in the way of God’s commandments. Its purpose is that each Christian might learn to come to the place where they will show love to others from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and a sincere faith. In other words, your immediate object in running will be to glorify God by the way that you run. Your ultimate object in running the race of the Christian life is to win the prize. This prize is the crown of righteousness which will be given to you, and to everyone who faithfully lives out the truth of the Word of God. It will be given to you by Christ Himself. He gives this prize to all those who are counted worthy to stand before Him in heaven, at the end of the race. There they shall hear His commendation of them saying: “Well done, good and faithful servant.” In order to run this race with endurance and glorify God in the way that you run, there are 4 things that you should remember to do. 1st of all – You should remember to run according to the rules. 2nd – You should remember to lay aside every weight and sin. 3rd – You should remember to fix your eyes upon Jesus.
