After God prepared the Israelites through Moses and his speaking to the elders of Israel, we now come to the tenth plague on Egypt, the death of the firstborn. In the middle of the night, God struck all of the firstborn. Before in describing it, God said it would be from Pharoah's house through the female servant at the hand mill. In this description, it is even to the firstborn that is in the dungeon. It was not because of your direct participation in the sin of Pharaoh that you were judged. It was because you were not shown mercy by God, because everyone deserves judgment. In the middle of the night, there was a great cry because death had visited every house of the Egyptians. After all the death, Pharaoh finally sends to Moses and told him to get the people out and go serve the Lord. He understood it was always about service to God and he understood who God was, because he asked Moses to bless him also. All the Egyptians were ready for them to leave as well as they expected to all be dead if the Israelites stayed, even giving the Israelites whatever they asked for to get them out. God had made Egypt rich through Joseph and in this passage, He made them poor through Moses. No one should ever doubt the day of judgment is coming. Are you going to be passed over when God sends the destroyer? There is only one way, by being covered by the blood of Jesus Christ.
