This passage continues the description of both what the Israelites were to do to prepare to leave Egypt and what they were to do on an annual basis to remember it. They were to be prepared to eat it in haste. They were to be ready to depart not looking toward Egypt as their hope, because God was coming in judgment against Egypt. This foreshadows Christianity as Christians are to be ready to depart not looking toward this world as our hope. Knowing that this world is judged. They were to paint the blood on their doorposts as a sign for them so that God would pass over the house and would not destroy them. The only way to avoid destruction is by being covered by the blood of Jesus. In future years, they were to start with the Passover feast and then they were to feast for seven days afterwards removing all leaven from their houses. It was serious enough that they were to be cut off from Israel if they ate leavened bread. Paul uses this is 1 Corinthians 5 to express the necessity of doing church discipline as the leaven is a picture of sin. After we are justified through the blood of Jesus Christ, we remove the sin from our houses and if instead we choose to seek sin, we are to be cutoff from the church. God focuses on removing the leaven for multiple verses. It is easy to forget that without holiness no one will see God.
