Pastor Phillips a period of time between the death of Paul and 311 during which time that we have no recorded records of great men. Thanks to many unknown faithful Christian martyrs the gospel flourished greatly during this time of suffering persecution. We can learn much from the unknown Christian Missionaries of times past. So encouraging! The point of this sermon is that God uses ordinary people, as we see from the early Christians. I was really blessed by this because I have often thought with discouragement of how phenomenally talented were missionaries like David Brainerd and Adoniram Judson--men at the top of their class at Ivy League colleges, brought up in Christian families, exceedingly disciplined and endowed in ways that most others are not. This sermon gives hope to those of us who are not so talented.

Great Sermon! This has been so interesting and inspiring
to learn about these amazing missionaries.
But we are not to worship them, but learn from them. To expect great things from God and have the faith to act on it is the key to it all. Thankyou

Awesome Message, but Dissimilar Situations pt 2 Three exceptions to my previous comment though: 1) for native believers in 'mission field' countries, this is absolutely a perfect sermon. 2) if Christians in America take hold of this message AND make a proactive effort to reach unreached people groups that are living within our country, it can be effective. Those new believers can then act as ambassadors for Christ among their own people. 3) American Christians can reach out to the unreached in other countries online as long as they are sensitive to cultural differences and not too much gets lost in translation.
I believe that the message you preached is happening in many places around the world and many believers are living like those first Christians. The church in China has grown like crazy in the last 50 years. About 90% of all pioneer mission work is being done by the native believers inside their own countries.
So if the audience is Americans, it's not really a 'mission strategy', but it can bring revival to our nation and it is a good message for all evangelization efforts everywhere.

Awesome Message, but Dissimilar Situations This is an awesome message that every Christian should take notice of. However, if this is your 'strategy' for missions (I'm guessing you probably wouldn't call it a strategy, but more like Christians just acting like real Christians and following Jesus' commands), there is one major difference between the first 200 years and today that was sticking out like a pink bunny in a field of green grass. During those first 200 years, Christianity spread within the Roman empire. They generally had the same culture and language. Today, in order to fulfill the Great Commission, our primary focus needs to be on the 2.7 billion people who are unreached with the Good News. They mostly reside outside our 'empire' (the United States) in Asia, Middle East, and North Africa. In order to reach those people, we Americans can't just do as the Romans did and be faithful and serious about our own Christian walk where we are in order to be great missionaries. It is a different situation.

Great Truth! Great truth: that we need not to seek for and to pray for great missionaries, like Brainerd, Carey, but for our holiness, because this is the way God worked mightily in the first Centuries, through the testimony of His saints, simple Christians.
