We have covered The Day of Atonement. That's the first animal God gives Abram in Genesis 15. I should stop here and let you know that it's okay to listen to this lecture first, but you'll want to go back and listen to the last five or so, to get a better understand of this great passage of Scripture.
Next, we covered the two goats. One is sacrificed to YHVH. The other one is for expiated sin. And this goat is allowed to be set free to run in front of Azazel, which we have determined to be Satan.
You see, the purpose of Genesis 15 is to answer Abram's question. How can I know that I am saved? That is what he is really asking here in verse 8. All these animals are a picture of Christ and His redemptive work at the cross. And the answer God gives is not simple. But this is knowledge of salvation.
Now we're going to the ram, and that sends us to Genesis 22; Abraham and Isaac. That's the exact same spot that Jesus chose to be crucified. That's probably the easiest ram. You just have to solve why it's caught in a thicket. Did you know that there's another ram in Exodus 19? This passage is the blowing of the Shofar; one of the exact same rams' horns that was caught in the thicket. See... easy as cake, piece of pie. ...In case you haven't already figured this out, you need to go find all the places in the Bible where these animals are mentioned in order to get the complete picture. But that's only one of the horns. Where's the other one? First, we look at Hebrews 12:2, but the second place is Revelation 4:1.
