What is the biblical response to false teaching? God has spoken and given clear instruction as the details of this passage reveal.
Biblical love takes place within the realm of the truth of God's word as it is lived out, and worked out in the lives of individual believers. Biblical love tells the truth and acts upon the truth. It is not a demonstration of love to compromise the truth by associating or fellowshipping with false teachers, personally or privately. The believer should not be doing anything to support false teaching in any way. To do so is to participate in that ministry. Participation is a compromise of one's commitment and loyalty to God, His word, and His love.
As listeners, belivers have a great responsibility to not be deceived by means of the abiding presence of the Holy Spirit. The indwelling Spirit of God teaches the hearer the Word of God, enabling the believer to discern truth from error and understand the revelation from God. Failing to be faithful to the truth, or to fail to serve in the context of the truth will result in a loss of rewards as this passage warns.
