The Bible is clear here that MANY believed on his name, but He did not commit himself to them. He knew what was IN them. He knew they were not yet willing to commit themselves completely to Him, so He did not commit himself to them. Whatever promises He offers must be reciprocated in love, or there is no salvation. "I will never leave thee nor forsake thee." He says to us, and until we are willing to vow the same to Him with an honest and yielded heart, there can be no new birth.
