Daniel stood out as one of the commissioners of King Darius, which caused his jealous fellow leaders to seek his death. The plan to trap Daniel was successful and he was discovered being faithful in regular prayer before Yahweh. King Darius had no choice but to follow the law. He reluctantly gave orders to have Daniel cast into the lions' den, but showed his support by wishing that Daniel's God would deliver him. Darius spent a sleepless night, fasting and hoping for the best, and once Daniel was delivered, he was pleased. He executed Daniel's enemies in the same lion's den and then wrote a new decree requiring all men to fear and tremble before Daniel's God.
