He gives us an example of 4 kinds of soil that represent the kinds of responses we will get to the gospel. Only one response, the good soil, can receive it so that it takes root in the person because God prepares the heart to receive it. This is called a supernatural work of God in the person which causes us to be born again. Also called, regeneration.
