In Satan’s first attack (as well as the first case of demon possession), Satan takes control of the serpent and tempts Eve. He attacks God's Word, sows seeds of doubt, pounces on Eve's compromise when she misquotes the Lord, impugns God's goodness and leads her into sin with blatant lies. But in the end, Satan fails. He sought to kill Adam and Eve, but they were given the promise of life eternal. He sought to advance his own cause, but is cursed instead. He aims to be as God, but is witness to the promise of his own final doom – that the seed of Eve will crush his head, a promise that comforts all God’s people in their fight against Satan.
