David, during his, approximately 10 years of being pursued by King Saul, penned down this emotionally charged Psalm. The opening verses (1 – 2) depicted David's deeply troubled heart. Yet in the midst of all the unfolding distress, David made petitions on two primary appeals. 1) With imperatives, He petitioned for God's capability to: a) Consider b) Answer and c) Enlighten his eye. All the petitions are deduced to two requests: i) Lord, make me whole once again and ii) Lord, make me see things as you see them. Secondly; 2) With concern, he petitioned God regarding YHWH' character in the face of a) his enemies b) in regards God's redemptive plan. The seed – Gen. 3v15 and the root of Jesse – Isa. 11v10 and the Lion of the tribe of Judah – Rev. 5v5. Thus, it was expedient that David does not die at the hands of the enemies.
