Paul has been pointing the new church in Colossi to Christ. It is Christ who is the head, the authority over all and our redeemer. Then in Chapter 2 he shows them that we are complete in Christ. We have been circumcised in Christ, baptized into Christ, raised with Christ, and our guilt was completely taken away in Christ. If you follow this argument, you should be left praising God and with your eyes fixed on Christ. What an incredible salvation and wonderful God. Yet the reason Paul had to remind them of what we have in Christ was that the Church was hearing that they needed to add certain things to their worship of Christ if they wanted to be mature or to have victory over sin in their lives. These things became a hindrance. Worse even than a hindrance, there were false teaching that took the believers away from Christ and turned the Christian life into works. They were the equivalent of living life with the shadows. You were missing the true gift. Join us as we look at Paul teaching on Jesus who is the substance of all true religion.
