We are commanded to be diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. This is not optional. We have no choice in the matter. The One who redeemed us, and therefore owns us, has commanded it. But how? How can be united when there are so many doctrinal differences that separate us. Ephesians 4:1-3 gives the answer. In this sermon, I will address many of the various beliefs and convictions that can separate us, but I will not deal with the doctrinal beliefs of liberal "Christians", Roman Catholics or cults, as there can be no possible unity with them. There is a path forward that allows us to give attention to unity without compromising or ignoring our doctrinal convictions. I will also discuss the sad consequences of failing to preserve the unity of the Spirit, which is evident today in the lives of many isolated Christians. Many people hop from church to church and many quit going to church altogether because they have not given serious consideration to the obligation they have to "preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace."
